Last night, was the much awaited reunion concert of the Eraserheads.  It was announced about a month ago but there was a lot of speculations as to whether it will actually push through or not due to the controversies involving its supposed to be sponsor.  Two days before the concert, the tickets were made available to the public and thousands of fans flocked to the ticket outlets and made sure that they were going to be a part of this once in a lifetime event.
.
I have always been a big fan of The Eraserheads.  I remember saving up my highschool allowances just to buy their records. They were the band who started the trend in the OPM world.  And up until now, they remain one of the pioneers in the music industry.

Just being in the concert venue last night gave me the chills.  Thousands of fans came to witness this one-night event and I’m sure glad that I was there. The big screen flashed a countdown timer twenty minutes before the show started and the fans screamed with anticipation.  Me and my friends found a place to settle in, a bit far from the stage, but still had a nice view from where we were.  Besides, they did set up a big projector for the camera shots for everyone to see.
.
As the timer goes down to the last minute, everyone was stoked and ready to rock on.  And soon as the first strums of the guitar was heard, screaming fans, me included, were so overwhelmed.  They started the show with "Alapaap" and everyone was singing along. It sounded so good and I never heard it as amazing as it was last night.  Fireworks ablazed as the song reached its final notes and I know that everyone was expecting more.
.
They sang fourteen more songs after that including "Ligaya", "Sembreak", "Fruitcake", "With a Smile", "Hey Jay", "Kailan", "Kaliwete" among others.  The last song on the first set was "Lightyears" and just as it ended, the camera panned on Ely Buendia as he sat down.
.
Then the stage lights went out.

The countdown timer flashed again on the screen indicating a twenty-minute intermission.  Fans waited for an exciting second set but when people came back on the stage and Buddy Zabala took the mic, it felt like there was something wrong.  Buddy introduced Ely’s sister who announced that the show is going to be cut short because Ely had to be rushed to the hospital due to physical pain.  It was said that during the break, his heart collapsed and Ely was already wearing an oxygen mask.  He was then rushed to Makati Medical Center.  The organizers apologized to the crowd who was in deep shock and asked for a minute of silence to pray for Ely’s recovery.

It was my first time to see them live on stage and I’ll admit I was disappointed that the show ended early.  Nevertheless, I was extremely glad that I was there and I get to hear the band performed even for 90minutes. It’s definitely worth every cent that I spent just to see them.

Eraserheads is and will always be one of the best Pinoy bands ever.

To Ely, Raymund, Marcus & Buddy, thank you for giving us the opportunity to see you guys again on stage.
